Winter is here and so is the season of dry skin and flaky scalp. The dip in temperature takes away moisture from the scalp which leads to dandruff—a common problem during this season. Though targeted hair care products available in the market can help deal with the issue, they might be heavy on the pocket. So, what’s better than home remedies? Whip up hair masks at home to get rid of the dry and flaky scalp.

Banana Hair Mask

Banana has a lot of nutrients like vitamin C, magnesium, and vitamin B5 (which boosts strength and shine). A few benefits are that it deep conditions and hydrates the hair while promoting hair growth and reducing split ends.

1 ripe banana
2 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil
2 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup coconut milk (you can also use yogurt)
1 teaspoon lime juice (optional)
1 egg/yolk (optional, for volume)
Method: Blend one banana, preferable a ripe one, and add honey, coconut/ olive oil, and milk to it. Blend all the ingredients well. There shouldn’t be any lumps, just a smooth paste with creamy consistency. It’s easier to rinse out. Apply this for 25-30 minutes and wash it off.

Aloe Vera and Ghee Hair mask

Aloe Vera contains a few enzymes that help in removing dead skin cells and dandruff while reducing hair fall. Ghee moisturises the scalp, prevents itching and makes the hair look smooth and shiny.

3-4 tablespoons of ghee
3-4 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon aloe vera
Method: Take a bowl and put ghee and coconut oil in it. Add lemon juice and aloe vera to it. Mix the ingredients and apply evenly on your hair. Start from the roots and apply across the length. Leave it for an hour then wash it off with lukewarm water.

Yogurt and egg hair mask

Yogurt in hair masks provides protein which promotes strong and healthy hair. Whereas egg cleanses the scalp and removes excess oil, strengthens the hair and fights dandruff.

You need:
1 cup yogurt
1 egg
Take a bowl and mix the two ingredients. Apply the paste on your scalp and hair. Rinse it off after 30 minutes. This hair mask will help you get rid of the bacteria which causes dandruff.
